Frequent Questions from Collectors
Q. Once I have my license, am I required to do gunsmithing actively on my collection or for profit? A. Not at all, your license is for your lifetime and you can use it as a hobby or a business. In fact, of the over a million gunsmiths in the U.S., less than 10,000 have FFL's and the majority work for friends, for themselves for fun, or as an extra income hobby. Gunsmithing is the one exception to the for profit rule, and protects unlicensed collectors, FFL's AND CCR's.
Q. What if I fail the brief exam? A. No one fails, as we will coach you until you receive your certificate, often in as little as a week.
Q. The PSU site has additional levels of Master and Journeyman. Can I order them there, and are they required for my collector's license? A. Only the basic course on this site is required, but you are certainly free to order more advanced courses from PSU at any time if you'd like to turn this into a more active business, from home, garage, or even part time. Q. How long after I order will I get my course and certificate? A. 24 hours after you order, the e-course is in your email. You get your certificate within 5 business days of returning your materials, name, address, etc. from the course.
Q. Do I have to reveal to anyone how many guns I have, or where I keep them? A. At this time, there is no registration in most States, and no National registration. So, No. During the last registration frenzy, gunsmiths were exempted, so this license will protect you from intrusion at the City, County, State AND Fed level. YOU decide who you tell about your inventory, collection and license. Q. Most wholesalers won't sell to me without a brick and mortar store, or FFL, or just with my CCR. Will this help? A. Absolutely, all our grads are buying wholesale, even for their home office or garage shop or collection! You can get tools, parts, and many other items wholesale at suppliers like Numrich, Brownell's, ETI and hundreds of others, as PSU gives you trade references and validates your certificate for any trade inquiry.
Q. How can PSU offer this course so cheaply? The next biggest college charges $12,000 and takes over 6 months? A. PSU operates the largest gunsmithing program in the U.S. We have partnered with ETI, one of the largest LE/Military Distributors in the Nation, and Smith Tactical, the largest employer of gunsmiths in the US, to offer this unique and unprecedented program to protect your rights and collection, given the new ban initiatives, which are now bound to happen in some form of compromise.
